Make the visit about your question
Try a short note: what bothers you, what you hope to learn, and what you have already tried. There is no need to use medical words.
Then ask the service what its clinician would assess. Get the name and professional title of the person you would see.
The Federation of State Medical Boards advises online clinicians to disclose their identity and credentials, meaning their qualifications.
Ask how a plan would be chosen
As of September 2026, medical board guidance said choosing a medicine from a menu was not enough: the clinician must assess your health before choosing treatment.
That guidance also said patients needed a way to bring further questions to the clinician.
This is board guidance, not a nationwide law.
- What would the visit help us understand?
- Which questions would you ask before discussing medicine?
- What happens if medicine is not part of the plan?
- How do I reach the clinician with a later question?
Write down the answers in your own words. If the answer still sounds like an advert, ask for a concrete example of what the visit involves.
